The time has come for a new set of portraits! It can be incredibly overwhelming looking for a photographer. There are so many out there. How do you find the right one???
I'd like to offer some help beyond just picking me. :)
First, set your budget. Everyone has a budget in mind. It is okay to have one and it is also okay if you have no idea what to expect to pay. Seeing so many photographers on social media with prices all across the board makes it hard to know what to expect.
A few things to think about as you set your budget:
Do you want an experience where you just show up and every aspect is taken care of? Do you want more control where you tell them the location and plan it yourself? Do you want more pampering with hair and makeup provided? The more luxury the services will mean a higher price point.
Do you want posed portraits or more laid back lifestyle approach where maybe someone has a silly face, but it is more in tune with their personality? Maybe a mix of the two? Maybe you have no idea. Look at pictures online-are you drawn to the more laid back approach or the more traditional approach? Knowing that will help you find the perfect style.
Speaking of perfect style, look at the colors of your top choices. Do you like light and bright photos? Do you like darker photos with a moody feel? Knowing what looks you are drawn to will help you. Most photographers cannot change their editing style and we want you to love your photos.
Look that photographer up online. Check out their social media pages, their website and see how you feel. Is it easy to book? Are you moved by their photos online? If not, you wont be moved when you hire them and will leave feeling less than thrilled. You want to leave the session feeling amazing and on top of the world. Yes-even if your kids or spouse throws a fit. Sessions are supposed to be fun.
Make sure you are selecting a photographer in your general region. In Florida, we get some that travel and will take sessions while on vacation, but still make sure their travel dates match up with when you are wanting a session. If they are close, but not in your direct market, you may have to travel to them or pay them a fee to travel to you.
Read their reviews on Google and social media. Do they have any? Some may not have many. I know I personally don't review many places on any platforms and I am also bad at asking for reviews.
You can ask them questions! Ask what gear they use, classes they take, trainings they do. Why should you pick them?
There is a photographer for every budget, style and location.
